A dog tag is key to keeping your dog safe
Every dog needs his dog tag. Without one he becomes just another stray wandering the streets. At least that is how it will look to the local animal shelter. In many places it is illegal for your dog to be without a dog tag. Your dog may not be happy with that thing around his neck however; it will give you peace of mind that your dog is protected. And without those tags you may lose your dog forever.
Even indoor dogs need to have a dog tag. They too may escape their leash or run out an open door. Don’t let that loving exterior fool you, they can be escape artists if something on the outside seems appealing enough. And as any male dog will tell you, a female in heat is appealing.
For your own peace of mind and to help insure your dog’s safe return, a simple dog tag is worth it. It gives your neighbors a chance to return your dog to you and it tells the local animal shelter that your dog is not just another stray and there is a way to get in touch with the owners. It will also stop the neighbor’s kids from adopting your dog, saying that he just followed me home, he doesn’t have an owner…
