A necessary evil that is cat fighting

Cat fighting may not seem like a wonderful thing; however, your cat fighting is necessary. If you have an outdoor cat that territory is their life. All cats need a territory for hunting and that territory needs to be defended.

Cat fighting sounds a lot worse than it is. They make those horrible sounds in an attempt to scare the other cat off. However, it seems to do a better job of scaring their owners into thinking that their cat is about to die. Most times a cat fight will not result in any serious injuries to your cat. If your cat does return home with major wounds chances are that he was not fighting with another cat but instead with a dog, a racoon or coyotes. In that case, keeping him in at night might be your best option.

Cat fighting is mostly posturing. I would personally rather have my cat making a lot of noise outside and defending his territory than have him inside marking my furniture as his. A cat defending his territory is part of his life. To have an outdoor cat is to expect the 3:00 am yowling and the occasional scratch mark.
