National Pet Week, Salutes People and Pets, A Loving Bond

More than 58 million households in the United States have a dog, cat, bird or other companion animal within their walls. During National Pet Week, May 2-8, 2004, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Auxiliary to the AVMA, along with pet owners and corporations celebrate what the more than 150 million companion animals do for us every day.

They remind us that our pets rely on us for not only companionship but for their health and well being.

Your pet can't tell you where it hurts, said AVMA President, Jack O. Walther, DVM. Pet owners rely on their family veterinarians to offer quality patient care using the most modern methods available. Ultrasounds, fiber optics, in-house laboratory, digital x-rays, and sophisticated surgical procedures are the rule, not the exception.

Our clients today expect referrals to Board Certified specialists for complicated diagnosis and treatment. Chemotherapy, dialysis, emergency medicine, cataract surgery, and pace makers are readily available, Dr. Walther explained. For more information, see pet training aids.
