Health Department and the Vernon Hills Police Department Offer Microchip Clinic for Pets
Countless dogs and cats are lost due to lack of proper identification. To address this
concern, Animal Control of the Lake County Health Department/Community Health
Center and the Vernon Hills Police Department will host a microchip clinic on Saturday,
June 26 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Vernon Hills Police Department located at 754 N.
Lakeview Parkway, one block south of Route 60 on Lakeview Road, in Vernon Hills.
At the clinic, pet owners can have their dog or cat permanently identified with an
American Veterinary Identification Device (AVID) Microchip for a fee of $10.00. All
dogs must be leashed and cats need to be in a carrier. The clinic is open to all Lake
County residents.
The AVID Microchip is a tiny computer chip that has an identification number
programmed into it. This microchip is encapsulated within biocompatible material. The
whole device is small enough to fit into a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected
under the skin of a pet where it will stay for the life of the animal.
This provides a
permanent positive identification that cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed. It
is a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft.
In the first
five years of the AVID Animal Identification System, the AVID Microchip reunited
more than 75,000 pets with their families.
