PetSmart comes to aid of four-legged refugees in New Mexico wild fires

PETsMART, Inc., the nation's leading pet retailer, announced today that PETsMART Charities is working with the American Humane Association and the Humane Society of the United States to assist the pets that are being displaced in New Mexico due to the disastrous wildfires.

In an effort to assist the thousands of pets evacuated from Los Alamos, just north of Sante Fe, PETsMART has donated more than $6,000 in crates and other necessary pet supplies, including kitty litter, Shareables bottled water and various size pet bowls.

Helping pets in need is nothing new to PETsMART. In the past, PETsMART and PETsMART Charities have assisted in many other major man-made and natural disasters including Hurricane Floyd and the Florida fires.

"This is a tragedy for this community and our ability to assist with this type of disaster relief makes us unique and is invaluable to cities like Los Alamos," said Joyce Briggs, executive director of PETsMART Charities.

Since 1992, PETsMART Charities has donated more than $10 million to animal welfare programs and, through its in-store adoption programs, has saved the lives of more than 735,000 companion animals. In addition, PETsMART has worked with animal shelters nationwide through its in-store PETsMART Charities' Luv-A-Pet Adoption Centers to promote the year-round adoption of homeless pets by customers.
