Meowlingual, cat translation device
Takara Co., Ltd (Chairman and CEO, Keita Satoh) announces that development of the Meowlingual, cat translation device is well underway and the products is expected to go on sale in November 2003 with a suggested retail price of Y8,800. With a microphone, LCD display and voice print analyzer built into one compact unit, Meowlingual is a follow-up to Takara’s world renowned dog translator, Bowlingual, which went on sale in Japan in September of 2002.
Like its predecessor, Meowlingual is intended to introduce a new form of communication between man and furry friend, fulfilling the ageless dream man has had to talk to the animals.
The underlying acoustic analysis is again being done in partnership with Japan Acoustic Laboratories (Tokyo, Dr. Matsumi Suzuki president) and animal behavior analysis is again being conducted in conjunction with Kogure Companion Animal Clinic (Tokyo, Dr. Norio Kogure, Ph.D., DVM, Founder). Additional consultation is being provided by Keiko Niimi, professional animal photographer.
Meowlingual will analyze cats’ meows to determine the emotion and then match it with more than 200 phrases. The results are displayed on the LCD screen. Other functions which mimic the Bowlingual, will include Body Language Analysis, which will help users understand whimsical feline behavior, a Medical Reference to provide easy-to-use info regarding feline health problems, and a Data Analysis function to track emotional changes over time.
New to the Meowlingual will be a playfully themed daily feline fortune-telling function for owners. One or more other undisclosed functions are still under development.
The hand-held Meowlingual device is shaped like a cat, with curvy design lines and a compact size designed to fit easily in the palm of a woman’s hand. The LCD display where the cat’s face would be and the microphone, used to pick up the cats’ meows is located in one of the cat’s ears. The control buttons are also cleverly positioned in the shape of a cat paw.
Since the first announcement of Bowlingual, cat owners all over the world have been telling Takara, “We want a cat translator!” Now, by popular demand, Takara is making their dream come true by bringing a new era of communication between cat lovers and their pets, with Meowlingual, the cat translator.
