Spokane Dog Training Club Canines to perform at Spokane’s Premier Pet Expo

Yes, dogs can fly, at least when chasing a ball. Spokane Dog Training Club will perform flyball June, 14, 2003 at the Spokane Fair & Expo Center. The flyball race consists of a start/finish line, two lanes, four jumps to a lane with a flyball box at the far end of each lane.

The dog must clear each jump in succession, trigger the box, which releases a ball, and return over the same jumps with the ball in the dogs mouth. If the dog does not jump any of the four jumps, trigger the box, or return with the ball, it must rerun at the end of the line.

The team to have its fourth dog (or last to re-run) to cross the finish/start line with any part of its body in the air or on the ground wins the heat. A race is defined as the best two of three heats. In addition to flyball, the club will demonstrate obedience, and the hot new sport rally.

Spokane Dog Training Club was founded in November 1948 and is licensed by the American Kennel Club. The goal of this club has always been the promotion of obedience training of dogs to make them better citizens. For the past 54 years Spokane Dog Training Club has offered training classes open to the public for both mix and pure breeds.

As the sport of dog showing has expanded nationwide, the training and exhibiting opportunities offered by Spokane Dog Training Club has grown to include Canine Good Citizen training and tests, agility trials, herding trials, tracking tests, and flyball tournaments. Another one of our expansions is a precision drill team. Twelve off our members and their dogs execute routines that include, weaving, turns, and many difficult maneuvers.
